What is IPL?
Intense pulse light treatment is light therapy used by medical and aesthetic practitioners to improve to color and texture of the skin. Common conditions addressed are sun damage, hyper-pigmentation (brown spots), vascular lesions, freckles, rosacea, unwanted hair.
How does IPL work?
Sun and age spots have brown and red colors. The laser uses pulses of intense light to target the different pigments. The BROWN and RED SPOTS in the skin ABSORB THE ENERGY OF THE LIGHT. This causes the brown and red spots to heat up enough that they will dissolve and be absorbed by the body or dry up and flake off over the next 7-10 days. The skin without any pigment does not absorb light energy. Which means the non-pigmented skin cells remain totally intact and are not injured by the light. We are proud to offer CARROLLTON a safe, non-invasive treatment that our AESTHETIC PROVIDERS tailor to each individual patient’s skin.
How many treatments are typically required?
1-3 treatments prior to seeing results.
What areas can be treated?
IPL can be used on ALL areas of the body. The most common areas treated are areas that are frequently exposed to the sun. Examples include the face, neck, chest, legs, hands, and arms.
What should I avoid before my IPL treatment?
Avoid extended sun exposure, self-tanning, or tanning beds one month before and after treatment. If taking accutane, you must wait a minimum of six months prior to getting any IPL treatment. If using topical retinol product, you must stop seven day prior to your IPL treatment.
What does the treatment feel like?
Patient’s report that the treatment feels similar to a repeated snapping of a rubber band. Anesthesia is not required for this procedure. Once the IPL treatment is completed, moisturizer and sunscreen are applied.
What should I expect after my treatment?
Treated skin may appear slightly red or pink. Some swelling may be present after the session and may last a few hours. 24-48 hours after the treatment the sun spots will darken then flake off during the week. Spider veins may improve 2-4 days after IPL treatment.
What should I do after my treatment?
Wear sunscreen daily post treatment regardless of outdoor time or climate conditions.
